Damien Serban. Né en 1982 à Paris.
Diplômé, avec les félicitations du jury, de l’Institut Supérieur des Arts Appliqués de Paris en 2003, Damien Serban réalise au cours de ses études trois courts métrages. Epines et Le Cosmos dans une Assiette de Pâtes, réalisés avec Yann Bertrand, et Chut.... réalisé seul.

Grâce à son premier projet indépendant, Chrysalide (2005), il va pouvoir, avec Yann Bertrand, mettre en pratique et préciser un travail de la 3D laissant apparaître le polygone, les architectures, et les erreurs provoquées par le logiciel, le détournant de sa fonction intentionnée.
Ce film sur la danse Butô, fait également parti d’une installation, conçue en parallèle avec les sculptures et dessins de Michel Lauricella et les photographies de Dorothea Nold. Chrysalide, distribué par Autour de Minuit, est projeté lors de nombreux festivals internationaux.

De 2006 à 2007 il réalise plusieurs films abstraits mettant en avant la technique du morphing et les erreurs de compression informatique, pour tenter de trouver une frontière entre ce qui échappe à l’Homme et ce qui n’est plus contrôlé par l’ordinateur. L’amenant à Eau Sèche, un film en 3D sur les nuages, réalisé pour le concert-opus Impressions d’Eau. Pour lequel il collabore avec le musicien Suguru Goto.

En 2008, c’est à nouveau avec Yann Bertrand qu’il achève Silken, produit par Autour de Minuit, et recevant le soutien d’Arte, du CNC et d’Arcadi. Ce film tourné en HD puis torturé numériquement explore le ressenti d’un homme resté dans le ventre de sa mère. Silken est projeté internationalement, et a reçu le « Prix Spécial du Festival » du festival Prisdecourts 2008 à Paris. Il sera également diffusé sur Arte en 2009.

Thanks to its first independent project, Chrysalide (2005), he will elaborate and put into practice, with Yann Bertrand, a use of 3D letting its polygons and architectures apparent, as well as the errors created by the software, refocusing its intended function.
This film on the dance Butô, is also part of an installation, conceived in parallel with the sculptures and drawings of Michel Lauricella as well as the photographs of Dorothea Nold.
Chrysalide, distributed by Autour de Minuit, is shown at numerous international festivals.

From 2006 to 2007 he will direct a few abstract films focusing on morphing and compression errors, finding themselves at the border between what Men can’t grasp and what is no longer controlled by the computer. Bringing him to Eau Sèche, a 3D film on clouds, directed for the concert-opus Impressions d’Eau. For which he collaborated with the musician Suguru Goto.

In 2008, it is once again with Yann Bertrand that he finishes Silken, produced by Autour de Minuit, and getting grants from Arte, CNC and Arcadi. This film shot in HD and digitally tortured explores the feelings of a man who remained in his mother’s womb. Silken is shown internationally, and won the “Special Festival Prize” at the festival Prisdecourts 2008 in Paris, France. He will also be on Arte (French/German television) in 2009.
